Direct Your IRA Payments to Fresh Start
THE PENSION PROTECTION ACT signed in August 2006 allows IRA owners age 70 and 1/2 and older to transfer directly to Fresh Start Walnut Creek (or other charities) up to $100,000 each year in 2006 and 2007. The transferred amount is excluded from the IRA owner's taxable income and can count toward the minimum required distribution in each year. The transfer must be made directly from the IRA account to Fresh Start Walnut Creek and must be for an outright gift; trusts and other planned gifts do not qualify. There is not an income tax deduction for the transfer; the amount is simply not included in the IRA owner's income. Transfers to private foundations, donor-advised funds and supporting organizations do not qualify. You may wish to consult your Certified Public Accountant or Tax Attorney.
